While the trip to New Atricis had been a short one, Tralexi wasn't used to being on dragon-back. She knew that Delyath had done his best to keep the ride smooth, there was only so much a body could do in a hurry such as theirs. If Tralexi had been honest it was those seconds Between that jarred her the most. With an arm already throbbing from the break and cut, the harsh cold set everything off once more.
By the time the gentle blue had landed in the unfamiliar weyr-yard, the girl's cheeks were coated in fresh tears. It took all of S'ian's brotherly skills to coax the injured girl off Dely's back. Even then the girl clung to his riding leathers for several minutes before her pain dulled enough to stand on her own. When she finally lifted her head from the comforting warmth of her half-brother, Tralexi's hazel eyes took in the small crowd their arrival had stirred. No one had been expecting them, at least not for another seven-day. Glancing up at her taller brother, Tralexi tried to gage his reaction before she made her own.
The familiar reassuring smile played at his mouth but his eyes told a different story. Tense worry darkened his gaze as he took in her tear-stained face. Softly he brushed a finger down her cheek before asking, ”You okay little bird?” The concern twinning with his childhood nickname for her helped Lexi gain her footing as she nodded slightly before turning to face the crowd.
There were a few gasps and a few worried comments before S'ian's warm hand landed on Lexi's shoulder. In his best rider's voice the young man called out, ”My companion is hurt. Is there a healer near? She'll need the best care, I'm afraid. Healers don't make the best of patients.” This last was aimed at the girl by his side. The teasing lilt to his words brought a small smile to Lexi's face as she stepped forward slightly and waited to see what his words would stir up this time.
