Resetting and Introductions | Open, looking for Healer

The Crafter Complex is a series of buildings that contain craft halls and rooms for the crafters of New Atricis to work. There is a single dorm building for apprentices, while journeyman and masters live in second floor rooms in their respective crafts. Off to the side from the complex is the largest building, the Infirmary, where everyone in the Weyr receives Healer attention and desk workers keep track of who comes and goes at the entrance to the Infirmary.

°-Candidate Tralexi-°
Set three days before the Starlizard handout.

While the trip to New Atricis had been a short one, Tralexi wasn't used to being on dragon-back. She knew that Delyath had done his best to keep the ride smooth, there was only so much a body could do in a hurry such as theirs. If Tralexi had been honest it was those seconds Between that jarred her the most. With an arm already throbbing from the break and cut, the harsh cold set everything off once more.

By the time the gentle blue had landed in the unfamiliar weyr-yard, the girl's cheeks were coated in fresh tears. It took all of S'ian's brotherly skills to coax the injured girl off Dely's back. Even then the girl clung to his riding leathers for several minutes before her pain dulled enough to stand on her own. When she finally lifted her head from the comforting warmth of her half-brother, Tralexi's hazel eyes took in the small crowd their arrival had stirred. No one had been expecting them, at least not for another seven-day. Glancing up at her taller brother, Tralexi tried to gage his reaction before she made her own.

The familiar reassuring smile played at his mouth but his eyes told a different story. Tense worry darkened his gaze as he took in her tear-stained face. Softly he brushed a finger down her cheek before asking, ”You okay little bird?” The concern twinning with his childhood nickname for her helped Lexi gain her footing as she nodded slightly before turning to face the crowd.

There were a few gasps and a few worried comments before S'ian's warm hand landed on Lexi's shoulder. In his best rider's voice the young man called out, ”My companion is hurt. Is there a healer near? She'll need the best care, I'm afraid. Healers don't make the best of patients.” This last was aimed at the girl by his side. The teasing lilt to his words brought a small smile to Lexi's face as she stepped forward slightly and waited to see what his words would stir up this time.

At first, Var'n barely noticed the blue coming in for a landing. He was on his way out to the greenhouses, to start a few hours of work transplanting seedlings. While a weyrling, he had thought frequently about which plant lines to focus on, and he had chosen a numbweed variant with both less odor and less effective numbing properties. While the fact it was less effective at numbing might make it sound less useful, he knew there were situations when pain relief was needed, but the person still needed that area to be responsive to some degree. Hopefully, with the reduced odor, more people would be willing to help with the processing. . .

That was an unfamiliar blue, with an extra passenger, and almost directly in Var'n's path to the greenhouses. He could go around, of course, and he started to do just that, reflexively nodding an acknowledgement as he went about his task. But the passenger was clearly badly hurt, and Var'n stopped even before the bluerider spoke up.

His plants could obviously wait. "I'll take you straight to the infirmary," he said, looking her over with concern. She had been bandaged up, but then she had been between. That alone meant they would need to check all her injuries again, and her arm looked broken. Even the bruises could be a problem if they were deep enough.

"How long ago were you hurt," he asked her, and he wondered for a moment if she could handle the walk. If not, he would call for a stretcher, since she did not look like a few extra minutes would make much difference.

Tralexi was still masking her pain with a smile when a masculine voice spoke up amongst the small crowd. Turning to find the source, Lexi’s face faded into a comfortable healer’s mask as she took stock of her injuries once more. ”A quick route probably would be best,” Tralexi said briskly as she tried to shift her arm into another position over her chest. ”It’s been a few hours now unfortunately. My brother and I did the best we could with what we had,” She tried to explain as she stepped farther away from her elder sibling.

While her posture was stiff, there were a few bruises that protested the movement and the healer couldn’t help but wince. Thankfully the careful stitches she had placed hadn’t been pulled. That small wince would have been a bit more vocal if they had been. ”Despite what my brother says, I’m no wilting flower. I’ll be okay if the trip isn’t a long one,” Lexi commented softly as her mind flickered over her own responses to the situation at hand.

As she moved closer to the male’s voice, Lexi could feel her brother’s steady presence behind her. For once she was thankful for his over-protectiveness. A small pained smile came to her face again before S’ian’s voice rang out with their introductions, ”She won’t tell you this but we’re Tralexi and S’ian from Igen. We expected… sorta…” The Blue rider’s words trailed off as he rubbed the back of his neck with an embarrassed grin came to his face.

Var'n wanted to offer to support the girl, but it wasn't as if she had two working arms, so propping her up on his shoulder wouldn't work well. He had a moment of strange deja vu, remembering his desire to prop up his own extremely pregnant sister as she guided him around the Weyr a few turns ago.

"Not wilting at all," he agreed, considering how she was moving. If the damage had been done hours before, it would probably be fine for a little longer. Her arm looked like a mess, though.

"I don't know who's keeping track of expected arrivals," Var'n said, in answer to the brother, "Do you mean for a visit, or permanently?" Either way, he was struggling to remember who he should report their arrival to. Eh, someone in the infirmary would know, so he started off, assuming they were following him.

"Someone will probably need to help you undress so a healer can look at your wounds," he commented without looking at the pair. "With your arm trapped up like that, I imagine you won't be able to do it alone. So I'll be grabbing a female apprentice to assist you with that as soon as we get there."

With the young man leading the way across the unfamiliar yard, Tralexi was able to let her mask fall slightly as her brother maneuvered his shoulder under her good arm. With a thankful smile at taller man, Tralexi did her best to keep up with the longer legs of the menfolk. Leaving the small talk to S’ian, Lexi started counting her steps to keep her mind off the growing discomfort. ”We’re scheduled to be permanent tranfers but we weren’t expected for another few weeks. We… we had our hands forced on the matter,” S’ian admitted with a sheepish look coming to his face as he glanced down at his half-sister.

Tralexi only tuned in to the conversation when an another apprentice was mentioned. Blanching even farther at the thought of another seeing the old wounds and scars her clothing hid, Lexi’s steps stuttered causing S’ian to almost trip as well. ”Lex?” He questioned pulling them to a stop. ”You okay?” He added hoping that the younger rider would hear and pause in his trek too.

”Y-yeah. Just runnin’ outta ad… adrenaline…” Tralexi stuttered out her lie as she began to shake slightly under his arm. With a grunt and a shake of his head, S’ian scooped up the injured girl and settled her against his chest before moving to catch up with the other man. ”Faster this way, Lex. Just relax,” He commented as the healer girl laid her head down on his shoulder.

Var'n paused a moment after they did, and turned to watch as the rider ended up scooping his sister up to carry her, and Var'n felt a little useless for a moment. He was still able to guide them, though, and he did that while trying not to feel awkward. Still, he could tell he was on the outside edge of some sort of nasty occurrence. Had someone hurt the girl intentionally?

"Forcing your hand looks like an understatement," he muttered. Var'n was somewhat able to deal with seeing people in physical pain, but there was something about other people intentionally causing it that turned horribly in his gut. There were enough dangers on Pern from the world itself, and from the Red Star. Why add to that?

"Was this an attack, do you need to report this to someone?" Var'n wanted to at least believe that it wasn't someone in a leadership position who had done this, though the politics at Walled Hold should have disabused him of that naivete. If the attacker were a candidate or something, though, that should be known, so that they could possibly be banned from Standing.

Tralexi let her mind wander once more as her stronger half-brother followed the young man towards the Infirmary. While she was paying a bit of attention to her surroundings, the injured girl began to weave a new set of white-lies and half-truths to cover the bruises and scars under her clothing. She was so lost in her own web of thoughts that she missed the glance from her brother. In fact it wasn't until S'ian spoke up that she turned her full attention back to the riders.

"The incident was reported in Igen before we left. Unfortunately it's been reported before and little was done to... Well little was done to correct the situation," S'ian finished lamely as his own feelings about the situation threatened to spill over again. In his arms Lexi tensed again with a wince. "Please don't," She whispered turning her own worried glance to her half-brother. "Some one has to know, Tralexi," The blue rider added firmly with a stern look coming to his face.

A look of defeat came to the healer's face as she realized the hard truth in his words. "I know...."
