Dancing Square [2038 Seahold Summer Gather]

Even with the move to the South, Gathers are still a thing to look forward to, though in the Walled Hold they appear to be called Festivals instead. Either way, Gathers and Festivals are a time of fun to enjoy when they come around.

Gather Dancing Square
Open All Day, Closes after the Bonfire
As with any Gather, dancing and music is part of the deal. In the main square of the Hold, decorations and a stage have been set up for harpers and dancers to use the space. Music can be heard from this area all day, with various performers being cycled out at different times. Many come to this area to enjoy the music, many more come to kick up their heels and dance. Tables and chairs set up along the edges of the square for people to sit and rest or to watch the harpers and dancers. When sunset falls, flame lanterns are lit to give the dancers some light to continue dancing by.

There was always so much to do at Gathers. Luka liked them. She liked the smiling people, the energy, the games, the enterainment. Just ebout everything about Gathers, Luka enjoyed, seeing them as a happy break from the norm, from the disappointments of like. During a Gather one could easily forget what was bothering them for a little while. However, what Luka liked most about Gathers was the dancing. The sounds of music ever changing always drew her in, often being the first and last place she attended at any Gather.

This Gather was no exception to that as Luka slipped in among the group of those gathered around watching the harpers play or the dancers dance. The redheaded bluerider wore a white outfit that consisted of a scandalously small sleeveless dress with a lightweight lace shift over the top, giving the first glance illusion of a much longer dress as the redhead weaved through the people, finding a good place near the dancers to watch them move and partners switch, and switch back again. In her turns of life and her experiences, Luka had never lost her love of dance.

V'ru of Green Radith
Tag Luka

Finally, the day of the Gather had arrived, and the ever happy Radith and her ever happy rider were among the first from New Atricis to join in on the festivities. They had been looking forward to this day for a long time, for it meant a day of fun and relaxation. V'ru always did like events such as these, because it meant he could talk to many people in a comfortable environment, and maybe even make some new friends.

Perhaps it was no surprise, then, that V'ru made his way over to the dancing square right off the bat. He might not be all that experienced with dancing, but he knew that it would be a great way to meet knew people! The outfit he wore was a relatively ornate tunic that had bright green patterns stitched into the otherwise plain brown leather in honor of his Radith and some nice pants, as V'ru was never one to go overboard on the fanciness.

Very quickly, his eye spotted a femme bluerider watching the people already dancing all by her lonesome, and he decided that she would be the perfect person to ask for a dance. "Excuse me, m'lady," V'ru greeted properly as he approached, bowing to her when he made it, "but may I have this dance?"

Sid'nis was enjoying the Gather so far. He'd eaten too much delicious food, was talked into trying one of the waterpipes by some of his wingmates, and had bought himself a new pair of boots from the merchant stalls. He'd watched several of the competitions though he didn't participate in any of them. The dog races had been quite fun to watch. Perhaps at the next Gather he would bring extra marks to actually bet a little. He'd cheered on Mul'rec as the man had challenged others in the unarmed fighting. Sid was too much of a pacifist to join in such fighting, but he wasn't about to not cheer on his closest friend.

Now that the evening was settling in, Sid had found himself a sweet treat to nibble on and a glass of ale to enjoy as he sat at one of the tables around the dancing square. He wasn't there for the dancing as he didn't feel he was anywhere near good enough at it to seek out a dance partner, he was simply there to listen to the music and watch. Sid wouldn't lie...he did enjoy dancing, a lot, but M'dor had never been comfortable dancing and the thought of Sid dancing with anyone else had made his mate far too jealous. Therefore, he abstained from dancing at all while he was with the greenrider.

Sid had dressed up better for the Gather, but he didn't wear anything that stood out too much. An appreciative sip of his ale was taken as bright blue eyes took in the twirling and whirling bodies in front of him. The music the harpers played was lively and upbeat. He tried to spot anyone he knew (if he was being honest there was one person in particular he looked for) out on the dance floor or off on the side lines watching like he was.

"Where did she say she would meet us?" Trinette asked as she and the Justicar made their way to the dancing square.

"She said she'd find us at the dancing square. That's all she said. I'm sure she won't be long." Adonis replied as he walked next to the woman.

They were both dressed up in nicer outfits. Trinette had her hair done up so it wouldn't be as hot. Though the breeze coming in from the ocean was nice and cool. Her dress was also made of a lighter material instead of the heavier velvet some of her Gather dresses were made out of. Adonis looked rather resplendent in his fine outfit, one befitting that of a Justicar. His new wing knots were worn proudly on his shoulder.

"And it's not like we'll miss her with that gorgeous red hair of hers." Adonis pointed out with a fond smile. Trinette could only laugh and agree. Their lover's hair was quite remarkable. For awhile, the zultaniterider had been worried that the man would not approve of herself and Unna, but Adonis truly didn't seem to mind. She figured it was because she was a woman and she would have been right. Not that it was too hard to guess such things when she was empathetic to a fault almost.

"Let's find a seat and wait for her then." Trinette suggested as she lead the dark man over to an empty table, one she hoped Unna would be able to spot them easily at. She was looking forward to dancing with Unna, though she would be sure to let Adonis have time with her man. Plus, she doubted that Unna would care if she danced with others as well. That was what Gathers were for....dancing and enjoying yourself.

Honestly, Luka hadn't expected to be approached so quickly. She hadn't stood to watch for long before she was approached by a young man, someone she vaguely recognized from the Weyr even. He used such polite words as he asked her for a dance, and she couldn't help but smile at him. Certainly one dance wouldn't hurt, and so she nodded her head and held out her hand for him to take.

"I was hoping a partner would come around. I just hope you can keep up with me," she teased with a giggle and a wink. Though it had been many turns since her past at the harper hall, learning dance from teachers, it was still something instilled in her body, a muscle memory that would take many more years to lose than it took to gain. And though Luka preferred a different gender in many situations, she wouldn't say no to willing male dance partners, a long as she got to dance, she was happy.

Inakil always liked Gathers and celebrations, and he had no plans to skip this one, especially since this time he wouldn't be always looking for someone in vain like the last time. No, this time he was free from always hoping to see a certain someone when in reality they were betraying him. He was free to do what he wanted without looking over his shoulder. Being alone at the Gather didn't even bother him this time. In the past he had always been apprehensive about large, loud groups like this, but now he was a little more at ease. They still could make the nerves kick in sometimes, but he enjoyed the atmosphere and the fun far more than the nerves bothered him anymore.

After looking through the competitions and watching a few, but not participating in any since they were all physical and he wasn't very physically skilled. He was trained like the other guards of the Weyr, but he was mediocre at best with it, which perhaps made him better suited to the support team he had been moved to relatively recently. So he had just watched some of the competitions before moving along. He had tasted some food, and now he wandered into the dancing square to enjoy the music and the laughter of the dancers, a skewer of wherry meat he was chewing on in one hand, and a cup of drink in the other hand, a white wine in fact. Inakil wasn't much of a drinker, but this time he decided it was only suitable to enjoy something of an alcoholic nature.

On the side, he watched the dancers, finishing his skewer snack and tossing it into a waste bin nearby before he sipped at his wine. All the colors were amazing to watch, anywhere from the duller colors of the more common folk, to the flashy reds and purples or the more lavishly dressed, all flashing with the dances, creating patterns one could only see if they watched the steps of the dances long enough.

Talen's green eyes shone with excitement as he looked around. He wasn't usually one to go to these Gathers, but it really did seem like fun, and he needed some fun after everything that had happened lately. First e had met someone who was also interested in men, just like he was. He couldn't have found anyone more perfect for him if he tried. As it turned out, that same person had feelings for him. Unfortunately, the two of them had let their feelings get the better of them, and had had to face the consequences. They hadn't been allowed to see each other without supervision, and he would have to miss the next hatching. He knew they both felt really bad about it, but it was no one's fault. They had known what might happen, and they had just been unlucky enough to get caught.

As he walked around, he couldn't help but try to look at everything at once, although he knew that wasn't quiet possible. It didn't hurt to try though right? He walked by the dance floor, and although he wasn't one for dancing, he couldn't help but stop and watch everyone else. As the band started up a faster pace song, Talen couldn't help but sway to the music. He knew he wasn't the greatest dancer, so he didn't do more than that. He didn't want to be the laughing stock of the gather.

V'ru honestly didn't care whether he danced with a woman or a man, which was a mirror of how he felt anyways about other things (which in itself made being a greenrider so much easier in certain ways). But he had not come to the dancing square to flirt or romance - that was not the type of person he was - but rather to truly enjoy himself, because dancing sounded like a great way to spend his time here at the Gather!

The greenrider smiled widely at the woman as she teased him. "Well, I might not be the bestest, but I think I can hold my own!" V'ru happily accompanied Luka onto the square proper. "I'll follow your lead, m'lady."

Just before her pending arrival, Unna made those final adjustments to her low cut dress and her updone hair before she presented herself to the dance floor. Already she scanned the crowd for Trinette and Adonis, all the while wondering how the two got along. Once she spotted the duo, she stood back for a bit, observing their interactions, and wondering all the while where they might stand with one another. Those thoughts carried not an ounce of animosity, though the curiosity was certainly present. She loved Adonis, but a part of her generous heart also belonged to Trinette. Guilt of greed claimed Unna for being unable to chose between one or the other, but from a distance it did not seemed Adonis or Trinette minded.

And what of their feelings towards one another? Certainly the two felt something more than platonic towards one another, especially after the events of the last Turn that drew them together. Could it be possible if...

But Unna would not press for such a thing. Not yet. Not without knowing for certain where they stood with one another. Though perhaps she might give gentle nudges out of curiosity, if only to understand their sentiments.

Only after she collected three glasses and a good skin of Benden Red did she finally arrive at the table with a devilish smirk. She set down the procured offer before offering a wink at them both. "We should start the afternoon off right... am I right?" The three glasses suddenly found themselves filled.

When the first of the songs sparked on the stage at the Dance Square, N'kili could not help but follow the music even if only to listen to for a short while. The traditions of the North fascinated the young woman, particularly their melodies that seemed familiar to her own ears if only because of the cultural similarities between North and South. How enlightening the truth could be. It seemed both societies remained rooted in their pasts, holding to the traditions of their forefathers now long passed. The differences between Walled and Atricis seemed grossly exaggerated to her when she felt her harper's heart beat to those measures.

Two glasses of wine later, N'kili had yet to leave the Dance Square. Friendly faces caught her eyes with Adonis in particular who seemed engaged with his lover and a friend. The redheaded of his company, Unna, reminded the opalrider of one woman in particular.

The names Carrot and Ruby seemed synonymous to one another, for the mysterious woman never seemed to adhere to one identity or the other back in Walled. She embodied both yet she embodied none. Since Carrot's return to New Atricis, the redhead remained seclusive from the world, and N'kili had yet to see her even when she went to visit the Creche and see how Eleena adjusted to her new home. In the end N'kili decided the separation was for the best, though a part of her regretted such a concession, for all their union was nothing more than an elaborate lie.

I never should have slept with her, N'kili thought as she downed another glass of wine and set it aside.

Dutifully, the serving boy filled the glass, and N'kili replaced his efforts with a mark.

As though to question the wisdom behind a third glass, Duke edged closer to the woman, offering a chirp of concern to her.

"I am fine, Duke," she assured the beast before she took another sip.

A flash of red. Another redhead. Another northerner.

N'kili could not help the way her eyes trailed after the woman with memories of another, at least until she spotted the woman's face which marked her own identity separate from anything the envoy had ever known. Watching as the woman accepted the dance from the offered man, she watched as the two stepped off for a bit of enjoyment.

Maybe you should ask her, Omiimiith interjected with a draconic smirk.

Why did I know you would make such a suggestion? N'kili asked of her dragon with a smile of her own before regarding her own attire. The dress that flowed about her like liquid jade seemed far too formal for this Gather. Unaccustomed to these events, N'kili always thought the term "Gather's Best" suggested formal wear. Looking about, she spotted several who wore finer garments, though the woman still felt a bit out of place.

Would she want to dance with her?

You'll never know if you don't try.

Perhaps there lie some truth in her dragon's advice, and for a breath it seemed as though N'kili might concede. Standing to her feet, she moved to place herself in a favourable spot to ask the woman for a dance, but last minute her anxious fingers found her glass. I can't... not yet... I should speak with her first. Get to know her. Find out the name to the face.

Omiimiith nudged at the woman as Duke circled about her and claimed her shoulder in assurance. Then speak with her. Surely the dance won't last too long. You can think of what to say first.

What... like 'hello'? Surely N'kili could do better than that. As a diplomat, the goddess supposedly graced her with a nimble tongue. Perhaps tonight she ought to prove it.

Why not?

I think I will come up with something, just... give me a moment to collect myself. For now she found purchase near the table where the woman originated from, her hip supported by the wooden edge. And for all her dragon's encouragements, N'kili thought deep within herself with confidence Omiimiith could not hear, I've never been good at this...

While Inez found herself preoccupied, Ambrosius found himself standing alone at the Dance Square, picking at his rather... feminizing... attire that he allowed Inez and Rhianwen to choose for him. Perhaps a man of more definition might be able to pull off the style, but Ambrosius felt as though he floundered in it. The pink undertones, or "sunset rose" as Inez and Rhianwen officially called it, brought out the reds in his cheek and his lips, while the style itself revealed just how small a man he was under all the fabric. Fearing death by embarrassment and ridicule, the youth longed to hide from those eyes that might identify him from the crowd, and all the while he worried over any individual who might sort through his presentation and identify his true nature.

Would they know? Could they see?

Clearing his throat, he attempted to berate himself over how foolish he could be over such things. After Turns of disguise, not a single soul had yet to identify him. So how could Ambrosius believe a single outfit might change all of that.

Breathing some sense into himself with a glass of wine to wash away the worry, Ambrosius calmed himself... only to note the set of eyes that settled upon him. Meeting the gaze of the man not far from him, Ambrosius attempted to prevent his gaze from waning in any way. Alas he failed, and his gaze buried once more into his glass as cheeks matched the rouges of his jacket. Did he see me? he wondered to himself, only to answer in turn. Of course he did! He's looking right at you, you oaf!

Esca had taken a moment to find the dressing tents so he could wash up a bit and fix his clothing after the day he'd had at the Gather. He pulled his hair back after wetting it to make sure any little strand stayed down. With it being summer he couldn't help but need the refresher before he moved on to other things. The egg he'd bought was still tucked safely away in it's pot. He couldn't help but wonder what it would be. After washing up a bit, he donned his loose shirt and brown leather vest and then headed back out. By now he was simply looking for a chance to sit and relax with a cool mug of ale or mead and listen to the music.

The fact he'd yet to run into the one person he was hoping to see saddened him, but he wasn't going to let it completely ruin his time. The rather large mug of honey-mead was payed for before he made his way to the dancing square. Esca wasn't going to dance. That would require him being social with strangers most likely and he really wasn't in the mood for that. The music was wonderful to listen to as he sipped at his mug. The pouch holding the egg pot hung off his side, but was held out of the way in case someone ran into him.

Eyes looked for a place to sit down when he noticed a form he would never forget. The corners of his mouth tugged upwards as he approached the man. "I didn't think I would see you here." Esca said as he got right next to the taller man. The way he swayed with the music was quite adorable.

Adonis, ever the gentleman, waited for Trinette to take her seat first before he sat down next to her. Slowly but surely he was beginning to learn more about the woman who held part of Unna's heart. He wasn't exactly sure how he was suppose to see Trinette. Many would say he should be jealous of her relationship with Unna, but he just wasn't. For now he simply saw her a good friend...one that happened to be in love with the woman he was in love with. At first it was a bit strange for him to wrap his head around and even now he couldn't honestly say he had his mind wrapped around it yet, but he knew that whatever this was...it worked and that was what mattered. "Would you care for a drink while we wait? I can go grab us something." He offered politely.

Trinette smiled at Adonis as he sat down after her. When her and Unna had first admitted to having deep feelings for each other she'd been afraid of what Adonis would think. If he'd be upset or end up being jealous. To be fair, her thoughts and feelings on men were not the kindest even if he was Unna's lover. However, the man proved to be just as wonderful as Unna said he was. He'd accepted her without a bit of tension, though it was obvious he was a bit uncertain of how this should work. She could feel how much he truly did love Unna though and there was little doubt in her mind that is she was in trouble he would be there for her. "That sounds nice. I'll...oh wait...I don't think you'll have to leave." Trinette stated as gray eyes caught sight of their love coming towards them.

"We should start the afternoon off right... am I right?"

Adonis looked to where Trinette was looking and smiled at the buxom red head that had joined them. "Always, usually." Adonis smirked with a loving tease. He stood to his feet to greet Unna with a kiss on the cheek. "You look beautiful."

"As she usually does." Trinette added with a large smile for Unna. She also stood up and gave Unna a hug and a kiss after the wine had been poured. "I am looking forward to this. It'll be fun." She said with a good measure of giddiness in her voice.

Sid sipped at his ale happily as he watched the people dance. You should dance. I know you want to. Iolith broke into his thoughts. I wouldn't mind it, no, but I don't know anyone here. Failing at dancing with a friend is one thing...failing with a stranger is another. Sid said back as his blue eyes continued looking outward. His dragon knew what he searched for but neither of them mentioned the obvious. You're not that bad of a dancer, Sid. You're just reluctant. M'dor made you that way. Iolith hit the proverbial nail on the head with that statement. How about we not mention.... Blue eyes catch sight of a man standing off to the side watching the dancing and being as much of a loner as himself. Something about the man in the fine outfit caught his eye. I remember him. Sid said and then sent an image to Iolith. You remember everyone. Go say hello then. He already noticed you looking at him.

Sid debated for a moment, but the blue was right. The man had obviously seen him obviously looking at him and the last thing he wanted was to be rude. Yeah...alright. He told his meddlesome dragon before taking a drink of his ale and heading over to the man. A kind smile spread on his face, accentuating the dimples in his cheeks, before he introduced himself. "Uh...hello. I'm Sid'nis, rider of Blue Iolith." He held out his hand in formal greeting. "I don't mean to bother you, but I remember you from Benden Hold. You probably don't remember me." Sid said. He was use to remembering things no person with a normal mind could remember. "You're the first familiar face I've seen and you seemed to have the same idea as me." He gestured to their drinks and then looked to the dance floor, "Enjoying the music and watching the dancers. Oh...and of course a good drink." Sid raised his mug in a half toast. "How have you enjoyed the Gather so far?" He asked in an attempt small talk.

Talen had been so into the music that he wasn't really paying attention to anything else. Well, besides watching the other people who were already there dance. He was not the best dancer, well, in his mind anyway, so he just decided to be safe and let the other people dance instead of him. All he felt comfortable doing was swaying. He didn't really want to make a fool of himself, and he knew that's what would probably happen if he did try and dance. He tried to push that thought out of the way, knowing that negative thinking was not really going to get him anywhere.

He jumped a bit as he hears a vice, his blues eye looking around for the person who had been talking to him. He finally turned to the side and a wide grin split his features as he saw his red headed fried. He chuckled a bit and said, "Hello there. I'm not normally one to come here...and I didn't peg you for much of a dancer either.." He gave him a small smile before saying, "So..how have you been?"
