Weather: Balmy and clear
"Things will get better." Such a simple phrase, spoken so easily by people who had never truly known what heartache and despair was like. Kisle'vis had swore that such a phrase was a lie. Things either stayed as miserable as they were or they got a fuck ton of a lot worse. Four turns after his precious Yuavas had been forcibly ripped from his soul he was now, dare he say it, happy. The small group of pearlriders was flourishing as a team and the Flotilla was nearly fully completed. Granted, he didn't think it would take this long to build their permanent home, but he shouldn't be surprised. They were essentially making the equivalent of a hold or weyr, but above the water. Not exactly an easy task, but with the hard workers and brilliant minds they had helping them he thought the Flotilla was perhaps one of the most marvelous dwelling places on all of Pern.
Thanks to all the work to be done and with him being the one in charge, Kisle'vis didn't quite notice the subtle changes in his lovely Cetovas the last few days. She was fully mature now and quite the sight to behold. Stretching to a large seventy-two feet long, she was bigger than any dragon ever known to man. Kisle'vis was, of course, bias when it came to her.
Currently, Cetovas was lounging in the sand under the sun while Kisle'vis ate lunch with some of the others. Everything was going normally, that is until a wave of desire. Out on the beach, the large white-gold stretched senuously on the sand. While there had been subtle signs, not even Cetovas knew that today was going to be the day she would demand the males to prove their worth to her. Kisle'vis looked around the room at the others there. No one had experienced a mating race bonded to a pearl before, so none of them knew how it would affect them. Politely he wiped his mouth and got to his feet. They'd talked about the mating runs before and what they should do, but it didn't hurt to repeat it. "Those of you with females, I suggest you take them away for now until we know how possessive racing females are. Those of you with males...I suggest you go to your rooms. Whether by yourselves or with someone is up to you. Good luck to you all." His voice was even and calm. He turned to Kunati and took her hand. They'd already discussed what they wished to happen whenever Cetovas did race, so they were prepared.
Cetovas glided from her spot on the sand into the ocean. Her scales seemed to glow brighter than the noon's rays. Unlike dragons and whers, there was no all consuming hunger before a race began. She rolled languidly in the waves for a moment and soaked in the feel of cool water against her scales. Finally, she noticed the males beginning to circle her. Are you all here for me? How kind of you. The water is so perfect and clear today. I think we shall have a nice long race, don't you? Now...shall we begin? Then, without warning, she took off like a dart further out. The strength in her stream-lined body made it easy for her to cut through the water like a knife. She would give the males the race of their life. Her future children depended on it.
This will be a two round race. NPCs are welcome. More than one male may win. I will try to get the 2nd round up next weekend, but it might not happen until that Monday or Tuesday after as I will be in Chicago next weekend. Some other notes. Kisle'vis is locking his door with Kunati. Pearl races are not as strong as dragon flights, so keep that in mind. Otherwise have fun! Remember, this will be a PC clutch.
