"Things will get better." Such a simple phrase, spoken so easily by people who had never truly known what heartache and despair was like. Kisle'vis had swore that such a phrase was a lie. Things either stayed as miserable as they were or they got a fuck ton of a lot worse. Four turns after his precious Yuavas had been forcibly ripped from his soul he was now, dare he say it, happy. The small group of pearlriders was flourishing as a team and the Flotilla was nearly fully completed. Granted, he didn't think it would take this long to build their permanent home, but he shouldn't be surprised. They were essentially making the equivalent of a hold or weyr, but above the water. Not exactly an easy task, but with the hard workers and brilliant minds they had helping them he thought the Flotilla was perhaps one of the most marvelous dwelling places on all of Pern.

Thanks to all the work to be done and with him being the one in charge, Kisle'vis didn't quite notice the subtle changes in his lovely Cetovas the last few days. She was fully mature now and quite the sight to behold. Stretching to a large seventy-two feet long, she was bigger than any dragon ever known to man. Kisle'vis was, of course, bias when it came to her.

Currently, Cetovas was lounging in the sand under the sun while Kisle'vis ate lunch with some of the others. Everything was going normally, that is until a wave of desire. Out on the beach, the large white-gold stretched senuously on the sand. While there had been subtle signs, not even Cetovas knew that today was going to be the day she would demand the males to prove their worth to her. Kisle'vis looked around the room at the others there. No one had experienced a mating race bonded to a pearl before, so none of them knew how it would affect them. Politely he wiped his mouth and got to his feet. They'd talked about the mating runs before and what they should do, but it didn't hurt to repeat it. "Those of you with females, I suggest you take them away for now until we know how possessive racing females are. Those of you with males...I suggest you go to your rooms. Whether by yourselves or with someone is up to you. Good luck to you all." His voice was even and calm. He turned to Kunati and took her hand. They'd already discussed what they wished to happen whenever Cetovas did race, so they were prepared.

Cetovas glided from her spot on the sand into the ocean. Her scales seemed to glow brighter than the noon's rays. Unlike dragons and whers, there was no all consuming hunger before a race began. She rolled languidly in the waves for a moment and soaked in the feel of cool water against her scales. Finally, she noticed the males beginning to circle her. Are you all here for me? How kind of you. The water is so perfect and clear today. I think we shall have a nice long race, don't you? Now...shall we begin? Then, without warning, she took off like a dart further out. The strength in her stream-lined body made it easy for her to cut through the water like a knife. She would give the males the race of their life. Her future children depended on it.
This will be a two round race. NPCs are welcome. More than one male may win. I will try to get the 2nd round up next weekend, but it might not happen until that Monday or Tuesday after as I will be in Chicago next weekend. Some other notes. Kisle'vis is locking his door with Kunati. Pearl races are not as strong as dragon flights, so keep that in mind. Otherwise have fun! Remember, this will be a PC clutch.

(Borrowing adoptable pearl Kionvis for this. <3)
Rose-Black Kionvis
It was a pleasant enough day, full of sunshine and water that seemed to caress every inch of his shining body. But there was a certain heady sensation in the air that couldn't escape Kionvis' attention. He informed his rider of this, let them know that something was going to happen and that they needed to be prepared. When questioned, he clicked his massive tongue, ignoring the fact that he was being a bit mysterious about the fact. Enough of it, he was saying with the dismissive measure. There was too much sun to enjoy, too much of everything to have fun with before.

Truth of the matter was he knew, or suspected rather. He just didn't want to alert anyone else if he could help it. He wanted to have a "leg up" if that was even possible, though he should have known better. Before too long, the entire Flotilla would know that a race was eminent, that a female was about to cut through the water and lead them all through it. He wasn't sure why it was so important to him to be on the fore front of everyone else... perhaps pride? By nature, he wasn't a prideful creature, but there was always a first for everything, and there was always a space in time when the pull of mating would compel one to think differently.

When Cetovas started to move, the black pearl's massive body shifted beneath the inspecting hands of his rider, who took a step back before they could be crushed beneath it, and he the pearl made a sound as he shifted closer to the water. He needed to tell his rider. Now was the time. Cetovas swims, and I shall follow her. I know this is new for you, but I must try. He turned to his rider, and together, they shared a nuzzle, before they turned and jogged off towards their room, and Kionvis took to the water to answer the call of their great shining queen.

Great Cetovas, beautiful ocean queen, may you lead us to the greatest depths before you make your choice. You deserve nothing but the best among us for your mates, for your children, for the future of our kind. Do not go easy on us today, for while we chase, we have not prove worthy of you yet! He was not normally so long winded, but in this case, he would make an exception. The words, he hoped, would prove to her just how determined he was to be among the ones she chose, if she made the decision to have more than one sire for her brood.

Cthuvis had been restless all morning, and finally Eri'vas stood up from the scroll she had been trying to read and snapped at him, ”What's your problem?! Your mind won't quiet long enough for me to even remember a single sentence I've tried to read.” She felt her Pearl's uncomfortable rumbling as he suddenly plunged into the water and went for the beach, She swims... What? Then it clicked as she felt his affection rising when his eyes landed on Cetovas. Oh. Eri'vas was caught wholly unaware for the feelings coming from her Pearl, and with a moment of panic, she lunged for her own door, locking it. She would spend this Chase alone, she did not want to risk ending up with...well, anyone she knew, really. She supposed it might not be as intense as what the dragons were supposed to be, but better safe than sorry.

Cthuvis, for his part, offering a loving croon towards the massive Pearl, Wondrous day for a swim...Though not near as wondrous as you, Cetovas. As she slid from the beach and into the waves, writhing languidly in them, he joined her, rubbing against and around her like an accessory to her impressive stature. It was not pushy, merely an affectionate show of his feelings towards the Gold.

When she set off though, no warning given, he trumpeted gleefully into the water. It would be a passionate race, he was sure. Cetovas was spectacular, and the water was perfect. He felt the draw of her movement through the water, her form slicing like a heated knife through Eri's butter, and he followed. He might be half her size(let's be honest, basically all the males nearly were, her glory could not be contained in a smaller body, of course), but he would show her how worthy he was.

Objectively, they had all known this would happen eventually, and even that it would be reasonably soon. Their pearls were clearly adults now, and Cetovas was a giant of an adult, an impressive queen who would surely lay an impressive clutch. Elan’vis didn’t think that meant all, or maybe any, of them were really ready. Kisle’vis surely came closest, he had no choice but to have a plan for this, and he had Kunati here, as they must have intended.

Elan’vis hadn’t exactly planned ahead for this, but he was pretty sure that he could survive alone. Maybe it would be unpleasant, and surely it would be more fun with a partner, but he would manage. He just hoped they were right that this would be less intense than a dragon mating flight, since those apparently were sometimes strong enough that even people without dragons were affected. Hopefully, at least, Yanna and the other young people wouldn’t be caught up in this.

Panlovis, of course, was completely enthusiastic about the chase. The day, the water, and you are all glorious, he told Cetovas, barely restraining himself while a rueful Elan’vis headed to his own apartment alone. The only person he would be at all interested in sharing this experience with was under orders to take his own pearl well away, so Elan’vis could only hope that they were right about this being a little more controllable than dragonlust.

Shay'vas and Silver/Black Mohovis
Shay'vas was sitting outside with her black brute of a bull, Mohovis was bathing in the water trying to cool off and occasionally coming far enough out of the water to get her attention. With the day progressing and Mohovis showing no signs of getting out of the water for a proper bath, Shay left the sands of the beach and headed inside to try and catch something for lunch, she passed the great golden hide of the only female with a pearl and waved, the golden hide shinned on the beach and she thought it was rather beautiful to see, with only seeing a golden dragon once, she had been in awe of the creature, now with seeing this great creature of the sea, she could understand the eyes that stare at the golden hide of a dragon. Getting further away she noticed that the rider of the large gold was standing close by, he seemed to signal them all and she wondered closer.

Those of you with females, I suggest you take them away for now until we know how possessive racing females are. Those of you with males...I suggest you go to your rooms. Whether by yourselves or with someone is up to you. Good luck to you all Shay quickler gathered her things and went to get in her room, this would be the first offical bonded mating race for the pearls, and she didn't konw what would happen. She waved to the goldens bond and quickly moved away to get inside her room. Once inside, she closed the door and went to work around the room, in hopes she could keep her mind occupied from the race. Though, she wasn't sure if that was going to happen or not.

Mohovis swam in the ocean, pacing much like a dragon would on land, or in air, he moved silently through the ocean and waited for the golden hide to hit water. As he watched her come closer and finally breach the water, he moved closer to the other males and eyed them all. He was determined to keep up with the others and even twisted around a little to pose for the golden hide of the great female.

I do believe you are correct my lady of the ocean, it is a perfect day to be out, the race will be wonderful, with your leave and your beauty to follow it will be much more beautiful then a sun peaking behind the clouds. Mohovis said quickly in hope that she would race beautifuly even though he knew she would be perfect. As he watched her take off quickly, he thought the only thing he may have on the many other males was that he would be able to hold his breath much longer then the others, but that would only be up to the others, time would tell. He watched the golden hide before him and with grate ease made sure to give the other worthy males room to move around and chase her as well. He didn't want to crowd to much and possibly lose his position, even if it was quite in the front yet.

Black-Silver Pearl Camvis
With many of the original Deep Ones glint having moved to their own territory, there were only so many males remaining, so while there had been some early competition between some of the males, not much of the tail slapping and singing had been witnessed this time. Camvis, however, was one of the young males to participate in such displays, being competitive by nature he was eager to show the other males he wouldn't back down before Cetovas' race had even begun. He was even bold enough to bring gifts to Cetovas and dare to brush his body on hers, not fully aware of how that could potentially have hurt him once the race actually began.

When Cetovas slid from the warm sunny beach to the water, Camvis was quick to follow suit, leaving the cropping of rocks he had been watching her from and slipping into the water with a splash. Other males already approached her before he got there, but he made sure to make his arrival known as he breached over the water and splashed back in. He would not go unnoticed, not by his rivals, but especially not by Cetovas herself.

*Swim as long as you want, Cetovas. I, Camvis, will prove my strength and follow you through every ocean!* He raced through the water after her and after his rivals as well, calling into the water with a mating song as well to punctuate his words to her. He was here, he was strong, and they would all do well to know it.

((Sorry it's so short and blah, I jsut really wanted to give Cetovas another male for her first race))

There had been rumblings and whispers throughout the Flotilla, about what would happen when Cetovas came of age and took to the seas, and while some may have felt unsure, Viathavis had become quite keen on the idea. As they'd grown, he'd matched Cetovas in all her glory up until the very end, and he could feel it in his very bones that his size was meant for the glory of the Glint and for this wondrous golden beauty. It had been the blacks' sheer size that earned him a place at the head of the Strike, and it would be his size that would surely win over the loveliest of Pearls.

To some, nothing about the golden pearl had seemed to change and even her rider missed the subtle shifts, yet it was hard not to notice the way a few of the males had begun to react toward Cetovas. Viathavis was among them, the few who began to dote on the female, bringing her gifts such as a sea shell from the bottom of the ocean, or daring to rub against her as she swam here or there, and once he had even sang to her in the early hours of the morning when the suns' rays just began to light the sky. The giant black had begun to court the golden beauty, showing his affection and admiration for her and doing his best to gain her favor before the Race even started. How could she deny that he was at least a major contender, and if she could choose more than one, Viathavis was fairly confident that he would among the chosen.

Omri'vis however, wasn't quite as sure as his other half seemed to be. He'd heard tell of what a mating Flight could be like for dragonriders, and they'd all been warned about what to expect, but what would really happen? Would his bond with Via overcome him? Would he have control over his own actions in that case, or would he just be fueled by the lust? He'd grown up around sailors and knew the lengths a man would go to when he felt the urges of those needs, and he wasn't sure if he was comfortable choosing just anyone as the men had been prone to do. In that case, the young man was prepared to just return to his apartment and close the door behind him, riding through this experience on his own to find out just how deep this took him.

There were quite a few of them enjoying a leisurely lunch in the great hall when suddenly Kisle stood up from his chair with a rather calm announcement, yet the words buried Omri like a ton of mortar. Not a moment later, he could feel the tremble up and down his body, the flood of such desires warm him from the inside and he could feel his muscles stretching as the giant black spread his shimmering blue bulk along the heated sands. A faceted gaze turned toward Cetovas, while his body angled toward the ocean and the depths they would claim together.

As she slid into the cool waters, Viathavis followed suit and slithered past her, daring to run his tail along her side as he brushed past. The giant black pearl edged out over the open waters, knowing keenly that she would seek them out, and he wasted no time in tempting her toward them. Lead me beautiful Cetovas...Down to the furthest depths or to unknown seas, and I will follow. He warbled enticingly, and seemed to hover in the waves for a moment, waiting for her. The moment the golden white goddess shot past him, Viathavis gave a mighty whip of his tail to haul his bulk forward and he gained speed rather quickly once they were moving. You are like a beacon in these cool waters, a shining light to guide my way on this wondrous journey. Let the ocean tell you where to go, follow your heart and I will follow you. The shimmering blue sang out as they sliced through the waters and began to leave the shore further and further behind them, racing out in the open ocean.

For his part, Omri'vis had risen quietly to his feet, though his knees had grown a little weak and shaky, yet he managed to pick up his things before leaving the hall. Stuffing the notebook and charcoal into his satchel, he slung the bag over his shoulder and made a hasty retreat, as a few others had begun to do as well. Omri cast a shy sort of glance around him as he ducked out of the room, even though he knew that no one would blame him for leaving and doing precisely what Kisle'vis had suggested. He was going to go back to his home, and handle this in his own way.

Or so he thought...

Through the water Cetovas's shimmering body cut. Before her was nothing but the open ocean and sun beams trying to reach as deep into her world as possible. Yes, today she would dance in those rays like never before, but that was only the top of her kingdom. Down below in the dark depths she also ruled and today those dark, shadowy places would be illuminated by her golden scales. She twist and twirled in the cool water, not at all caring about the males that were behind her.

Deep down, deep, she went until the rays only barely touched the top of her frills. She could sense the others behind her, she could hear their pretty words, but pretty words would only get them so far today. Down deep, down...into the shadows she flew. Only tiny bubbles of disturbed water marked her path through the still waters. Come, come with me my brave males. To the bottom of the ocean we will explore together until our lungs beg us for sweet life-giving breath. She crooned to those that followed after her. She was not teasing them either as she dove straight down through the water. Down, down, down, she went until the sandy floor of the ocean rose up to meet her. This was not the deepest any pearl could go, but it was deep enough the sun was only a blot above her.

Through reefs and rocky arches she zoomed. Her eyes barely seeing anything, but her other senses helping her to keep from running into anything. Cetovas veered sharply and through a small ravine laying between two high underwater cliffs. The floor between the ravine was littered with deep coral and the bones of long forgotten things. Faster and faster she pushed herself until ravine dropped off into the darker abyss. Cetovas was not called downward then, but up. Faster, my darlings. Let us launch out of the waters in an attempt to fly like our cousins! She called to them as she shot as fast as she could back towards the surface. Her large tail made the water whirl with disturbance as she soared ever upwards. The light of the sun began to shine brighter and brighter, sparking off her hide to make her into a golden beacon under the water. The closer she got to the surface the harder she pushed herself, until finally....the water broke above her. Her momentum was so great as to launch her all the way out of the water in an impressive arch before slicing back into the ocean nose first.

Was that not spectacular? Come on now, don't give up yet. I know we all have some more left in us. Prove your worth to me, my males. Her muscles were aching, her body was on fire, but she wasn't ready to choose yet. Her first clutch would be strong, she would be sure of it.

Panlovis was more than happy to follow Cetovas' lead, lost in the joy of a long chase and the series of acrobatics and almost able to forget the prize they were all seeking. The dive to touch the sands, the darting through reefs, it was exciting in a way that he had never felt before, and he reveled in it.

Cetovas, he called out, as she climbed from the ravine. He followed her up, and up, at dizzying speeds. though I know that you must choose, I never want this to end!

He followed her into the sky, and for a moment he flew, though he twisted as he fell back to the water, leaving an enormous splash in his wake. Why give up, he asked in response to her challenge, when even in failure there is this excitement?

Each sweep of her tailfin was like a beacon, and he chased it as if it was salvation itself. His enthusiastic whistles towards the other males were audible, and he thrilled in the chase, and the turnout for it. Regardless of who Cetovas chose, the journey itself was glorious. The feeling of the cool water cutting around him as if it were air. They were the dragons of the sea, this was their domain, their skies. The suns rays glistened, illuminating the splendor of Cetovas' hide, and Cthuvis rumbled gleefully, The seas thrive for you this day, Cetovas! The sun itself wishes to chase you!

And then she was diving, deep, straight down into the depths. With a final gulp of air, he dove after her, glancing towards his competitors before focusing on the stream of bubbles left behind from the White-Gold before them. Once arriving as deep as they could go, she wove majestically through arches and outcroppings as if they weren't even there, barely even disturbing the sediment upon the ocean floor. Cthuvis twisted and spun, reveling in the speed and agility being displayed by both his fellow Chasers, and the Queen leading the way.

And then they were up! With a twist, Cthuvis whipped in a quick, joyful loop, then shot upwards after Cetovas. He took advantage of her larger bulk then, slipping into the jetstream she created behind her. That in itself was impressive, and the fact that he felt he was so close to her, he could almost touch her tailtip. But this wasn't it. This was part of the chase. He did not snatch or keel pleadingly towards her. Oh no. The sun was growing around them, lighting her hide off as if it were littered in fine jewels. Which in his eyes, it was, and there was nothing more spectacular to see.

As she broke the surface, he was not far behind, and a squeeling trumpet rippled across the open ocean as his body left the water completely, mirroring in angle as Cetovas'. He was flying, airobrne, even pausing in mid-air it almost felt like. But it didn't last, and he dipped his nose, his lithe form arching until it sliced back through the water, streaming small bubbles behind. He looked to Cetovas then, feeling the burn in his muscles. Her bulk was an advantage for her, for long Chases, and he was half her size. But he would finish! He refused to give up, even if his fins burned and he could feel each heartbeat in his breast. This event was too glorious to give up. Cetovas was too glorious to give up! I will follow you to the ends of the oceans and back, Cetovas! This race is almost as thrilling as you yourself are!
