Iktomith knew a loss when he saw one. It was disappointing without a doubt. The pewter didn't want to believe it, didn't want to admit to it, but he had no choice in the matter. He curved back towards the Weyr without a word, just a lonesome croon in the direction of the winning green, not knowing that he would find company back home. His rider was already stumbling out of I'en't's apartment with a sigh, rubbing his face as he did so. He was't upset, just disappointed for his dragon, as he always was when the pewter lost a flight. It wasn't long before he found companionship of his own, and managed to find his way home, long before his dragon landed on a warm rock next to a pretty opal.

When it became apparent that he would not win, Zenjarth didn't make a complaining sound, though he did grumble in response to the obvious. The bronze had lost his fair share of flights in the past, and knew when to quit. This was one of those times - let the young canines win, he told himself. It was time to call this one in and return home, where warm grounds were awaiting him and the comfort of a pretty green might help soothe some of the lust still coursing through his weary body. In his apartment, L'van had company of his own, and when he woke up, he'd feel much better. But for now rider and dragon were locked together in a moment of comfort-need that they had shared before in the past, and would surely share together in the future.

“It's better to write something, anything, than to starve the monster. The monster must feed. And it will feed on your soul if not your words. Its appetite is insatiable. Write to save yourself from the monster.”
