A Spying We Shall Go - Open to Wherhandlers [Surveillance]

The lands around New Atricis that are regarded as Atricis' new territory. Not as big as their previous protective range, but still lots of space and wilds to explore. Dragon Flights and Wher Runs also occur across these lands.

The other handlers ran off, chasing the....feline trainers? The humans that thought it was reasonable to attack whers and their handlers in a concentrated campaign against the Weyr. Galana was NOT ashamed of the fact that fear made her heart beat hard in her throat, and she stayed at the center of the clearing, her back pressed firm against Galask's side. She may not be much of a fighter, but all she had to do was get any attacker into reach of her blue.

His muscles were tense against her back, prepared for action but still waiting. He understood that they were holding the camp as a safe place for their team to return to, preventing the others from taking it back. But it went against his instincts to stay back, doing nothing, while the other whers were chasing their prey. She felt his low rumbling growl against her back, rather than hearing it, but they did not say anything to each other, focusing on the edges of the clearing, watching, listening, scenting the wind.

They would actually be in MORE danger running through the woods after the murderers, she knew, with risk of the more agile felines on their own turf surprising them. But they wouldn't be able to THINK about the danger, to anticipate it with that queasy feeling in her gut. Galana was not a coward by any means, but she didn't become a wher candidate out of any love for violence or danger.

~Isilsk Note: To help finally move this along and get to a completion point for all of you who have been diligently posting away, things in this post are being semi-fast forwarded.~
The forest erupted into so much noise that any wildlife was certainly chased away from even the treetops. Bodies crashing through the brush and shouts split through the night air. Commands were yelled and cries of pain rang out. Everything happened fast, though it likely felt much longer to those in the middle of it.

@ Rhea
A shocked yelp from where the man retreated proved that Rhea's shot had rung true, striking his target where he'd aimed and slowing the man's escape. He didn't give up though, only stopping a moment before he continued his pace. When he heard the loping of a beast behind him though, he was sure it was over. Unwilling to go out without a fight, the man faced the Electrum wher coming at him, drawing a blade and throwing it at the wher. Even as it struck her though, he knew he was caught as his blade had made no meaningful contact. He had pierced her hide, but the blade hadn't hit anywhere that mattered on such a large beast. As he caught sight of the handler coming behind though, he drew another blade and threw it at the handler instead. If his blade hit its target or not, he didn't know, as the large wher was upon him as soon as the blade's handle had left his hand. It was over, he knew it was, he had been caught, but he hoped perhaps he had enabled his companions to escape by distracting the handler with two whers. However, what he didn't count on was, soon, the sound of snarls and a fight back from the clearing splitting through the air and reaching them. One of the felines had attacked.

@ Inggharudube & Ferghas
Of course the big bronze had caught her trail, she thought angrily as she crashed through the underbrush to escape. She had gotten a better headstart than some of the others though, so perhaps she could escape the large wher that couldn't move as well through all the plant life. So she ducked and weaved and rolled through brush, ignoring every sting the forest dealt to her and every thorn that stuck to her skin. Any wounds could be tended to later, what was most important was that she escaped.

Escape was not in the cards for her though, as she could hear the sounds of beasts gaining on her, and it wasn't the one she hoped for. Knowing she had no other choice, she dove to the other side of a tree, putting it between herself and her pursuers, and pulled out a unique whistle. Blowing on it, a high note split from it, almost too quiet to hear. It clearly served its purpose though, and potentially confirmed the growing suspicions as one of the monster felines leapt into action. The rogue woman whistled a pattern once the feline had arrived, and only a second later, the feline reacted, lunging and going straight for the large bronze, knowing he would be the more formidable threat that needed to be taken down first.

As the fight rank out beteween beasts, the rogue woman tried to make her escape, hoping to go unnoticed, but not counting on the keen eye of Ferghas catching her escape. When she realized she had been seen, she fought back, drawing a sword to fight off her pursuer while at least one of the whers was distracted.

@ Galana
It seemed as if Galana was safe in the clearing, the noises moving out into the forest away from her and her defending blue. Still, the forest was loud, filled with so many noises, so that the only warning to the monster feline that approached the clearing would have been Galask's scenting of the beast.

Despite the darkness, the monster feline was clear to see. It was a huge beast, bigger than even the large Mountain Felines by a couple of feet at the shoulder. Sure, those that had said these felines were large had been believed, but it was hard to truly gather how massive such a beast was until you beheld it with your own eyes. It was a mountain of a beast, with heavy shoulders and a bulky, muscle bound body. Stripes streaked across its fur, and fangs long enough to protrude from the mouth hung over its jaw. It looked like a monster from a story meant to scare children to behave, and with its bulk, it was any wonder these felines were able to take out the Isilian Whers so well.

Galask would be left to defend his handler by himself at first, fending off the beast to keep her safe. The fight started quick and was a flurry of snarls and movements. It was hard to see what was happening. It was a close fight, Galask just able to hold his own against such a monster, but in the end, he would need aid. Luckily, no other felines showed, nor any rogues, leaving Galana and Galask to handle just the monster feline until help came for them.
However many members of the group there had been wouldn't be known, but the two chased down, a man and a woman, were caught. Kept alive, they would be absolutely integral to learning more about what was truly going on. Once given a chance to regroup, taking the rogues back to Atricis was clearly the best choice of action. (Whether or not the felines are killed in the fights is being left up to the players)

To finally have something to chase and capture, Inggharudube was in his element. The jungle was not the easiest place to give chase but he had little trouble moving in, around and over obstacles the forest presented. He spotted his query moving quickly through the trees, doing her best to get away to the point she was even slowing herself down by crashing headlong into the underbrush.

Inggharudube knew his Wher would have no trouble tracking her so pursued in a slightly less hurried state. He wasn't going to take his time, why give these people time to regroup or circle back to the clearing? Or meet up with the felines they apparetly use to attack their patrols in the past. He put some distance between him and Inggharusk however as it was easier for the two to find their own paths towards their query.

The bronze wher may be a large creature but he knew how to move through the jungle having lived within it for many Turns before returning to the Weyr with his Handler. The female human's scent was already thick in his nostrols and he easily blocked out all other scents to focus on it. She might as well have marked a trail given how easily he could follow her scent. Given the among of noise she was making he almost didn't even need his nose right up to the point she went silent.

>Prey stop running, closing in,> Inggharusk told his Handler even as he slowed his pursuit to circle slightly from where the scent would lead him. He only made it a few more steps when he heard a sharp sound like nothing he heard before. It hurt his ears and caused the bronze to stop and shake his head.

>Not nice noise!> he complained.

What noise? Inggharudube asked, pausing in his own persuit but he couldn't hear anything but the sounds of other Handlers and their Whers continuing the chase.

The bronze didn't answer as he heard and smelled something far more dangerous than just a loud whistle. He turned towards the growl he heard and braced himself for the feline's charge. Inggharusk spotted the feline lunging towards him but didn't wait for the feline to make his attack. Instead he charged, slamming his body against the feline even as it tried to evade. The feline was agile however and quick, managing to get back to its feet and circle around, and attacking at Inggharudube's flank before the bronze can turn.

"They've called the Felines, beware!" Inggharudube shouted the moment he sensed Inggharusk was under attack. He decided the woman wasn't important for the moment, knowing he could track her down later once her pet was dead. Veering off he headed towards Inggharusk. It didn't take him long to find the bronze, the noise of the two predators easy to hear.

The bronze had a few claw marks on his hide but the wounds were superficial. The feline looked a little banged up but clearly was far from being defeated. Inggharudube took a quick look at the scene then used his whip to get the feline's attention. The sharp crack was not easily ignored and when the feline glanced his way, Inggharusk attacked. Inggharudube also moved in, switching his whip to his left hand to draw his sword with his right.

The fight was fierce but short, Inggharudube and Inggharusk were an effective team when it came to fighting felines though they had never encountered one this determined to fight to the death. Most flee instead of risking too bad an injury. Inggharudube's leathers blocked most of the feline's claws but he was bleeding from several scratches on his arms and one spot on his chest where his armor failed him. Inggharudusk had a few himself but nothing of concern. With the feline dead, Inggharudube joined up with his Wher.

"Come on, lets help the others," Inggharudube said then heard a noise back towards the clearing and realized Galana could be in trouble. She wasn't a combatant and her wher was on his own to defend her.

"Back to the clearing!" Inggharudube shouted, more to Inggharusk but loud enough he hoped any other free Handlers would hear. He then broke into a run, sending his bronze out ahead of him.

Rask snarled at the blade, brushing it off as a non-issue before bringing the man down, ready to crush, ready to bite, ready to kill when Rhea yelled out his own pain.

The blade might have killed him or missed him completely if he hadn't seen it coming, if he hadn't dodged, if he hadn't raised his arm to protect his torso, neck, face. It lodged there, however, through flesh and muscle and, tip gleaming red, through flesh again.

Rheask roared his anger, but Rhea held the brown back and pressed a mental reminder to Rask that they needed a prisoner.

He probably should not remove the dagger until Galana could treat it. He'd only bleed out faster. But he needed this arm if he wanted to tie the prisoner up so Rhea groaned and hissed as he grabbed onto the hilt and cried as he ripped it out. The belt from around his trousers became a quick tourniquet. He knew it was too tight, but, for now, it would do. He'd have Galana see to it before they went home. The group had answers and even more questions now, but those would be left to the Weyr's leaders to discuss.

A snarl sounded from the clearing and Rhea did not know who had stayed behind, but he could guess because he had seen Inggharudube and Ferghas run off with their own whers, but he had not seen Galana do the same. Rhea whistled and pointed and Rheask gave him only one look before grunting and running back the way he'd come.

As Rheask went to join the fight with Galana and Galask, facing the claws and teeth of a feline the size of some whers, Rhea grabbed rope from what was still attached to Rask's back and trussed the man that was now his prisoner so he would not be able to run or escape or fight. By the time he tested the final knot with his right hand, the injured left was going cold and tingly. He sped through the rest, quickly. Rask lowered onto her belly and reached over to help Rhea drag the tied up man onto her back. He secured him in place by tying the last of the free rope to Rask's harness and then led the way back, his injured arm tucked up against his body, cold and numbing even as the blood had slowed and thickened. He took his time, knowing he would only be a liability in any further fights, but loaded his crossbow using his one good arm while his legs held the weapon steady, ready to use it upon entering the clearing if necessary.

The scent only gave Galask a moment of warning of the approaching feline, and Galana swore loudly as she swung her staff around between her and the giant cat. She and her wher were both making enough noise to counteract the feline's silence, so she knew that help would be coming soon...if it could. Until then, though, she had to block claws and teeth with her staff a few times. Galask took the brunt of most of the attacks, though, and she felt echoes of some deep scratches, though her sturdy blue managed to avoid the monster's teeth for several minutes.

The teeth got through just before they got help, but they didn't get purchase leaving long gouges in the just behind one shoulder. When the other whers joined the fight, they quickly handled even the monster of a cat, though Galana was sure that there would be other injuries than Galask's to treat.

Sure enough, Galask's head came up. Smell blood, and that was not a surprise, but she looked around the group that had returned, the two captives, handlers....

"Where is Rhea?" she asked, concerned. She didn't see a lot of blood on any of them, not enough to get that tone from her wher, who had learned on several rescues to ignore the weak smell of blood from minor injuries.

Rhea had to admit he was more than happy that the attacking feline had been dispatched by the time he made it back to the clearing. Rask walked him up to the group, the prisoner still strapped to her back.

"I've caught one of the humans," he called out once he drew close. The pain in his arm had dulled as everything below the tourniquet had started to go cold or numb, but Rhea knew he wouldn't be able to keep it on for much longer if he didn't want to risk severe damage to the limb. He held it up to show Galana. "Also I am going to need some medical attention before we head out," he said with a self-deprecating smile that turned out to be more of a wince. "I needed to use my arm, so I had to pull the blade out, but the tourniquet is definitely too tight. I can't really feel my arm anymore..."

"They've called the Felines, beware!"

What the fuck? They can call them? Ferghas thought to himself as he ran after the one woman with Iggharudube and his bronze. Fersk was close beside him. Apparently their suspicions were not far off the mark, but he had no more time to think about that before a large furry body came crashing out of the woods and attacked Iggharusk. "Fersk! Help them. I'll take care of the bitch." Ferghas snarled hopefully loud enough so Iggharudube would know that he and his bronze would not fight alone, but also that they wasn't going to lose track of the woman.

Fersk help! The sunset wher said with courage before bounding back to help Iggharudube and Iggharusk with the feline that was now viciously attacking them. Honestly, they had it taken care of themselves pretty well, but she did try and help to distract the beast while they took care of it. After that she ran off to go back and see how Ferghas was doing.

The woman didn't run off too far before she had pulled a sword to try and fight him off. Ferghas didn't have more than a few daggers and cunning compared to her sword, but he faced her anyways. She certainly wasn't the sort to want to give up, but he was just as determined. A few small slices he receieved but as soon as Fersk got back to him, he had her on the ground with her sword threatening her. "Good timing Fersk. Put a paw here while I tie her up please." Ferghas asked out of breath. That when he heard Iggharudube yell to get back to the clearing. Quickly he got the woman tied up and thrown onto Fersk before the two of them took off back to the clearing themselves.

They returned to the clearing to see all in their party had made it through. Rhea had managed to catch one the men himself. "Everyone going to live?" He asked as he looked at them all. Rhea seemed the most hurt, but it didn't seem fatal. "Good. Looks like we have a couple of people that can answer to quite a few questions. I suppose we should get them back to the weyr for that." Ferghas looked down at the overly large feline. He knew he personally wouldn't mind getting one of the hides of the two he knew they'd killed, but he didn't want to seem to eager about it. "What should be done with these?" He asked as he nudged the dead beast with one foot.
