When Patience Isn't A Virtue ~ { tag } Slasher / Nixal

While a similar idea to the dragonrider apartments, the Dayhandler cabins are individual homes that are overall smaller than the apartment buildings, with size assigned by rank and needs, woth all cabins allowing Daywhers to come inside. Day wherlings move into these cabins after bonding.

He'd just finished a night shift and while the idea of collapsing for an hour or two sounded delightful, there were chores to complete before he could even consider a nap. Candidacy was something he took seriously - well, in most areas, there were some things he did skirt around... - and so once he was done with the infirmary work, he washed up and grabbed a strong mug of klah and headed back to the barracks.

He was partway there when one of the Assistants grabbed him and pulled him off to the side. For a moment he thought he was in trouble, but he kept his nose as clean as he could outside of his activities, and couldn't imagine what he'd be getting in trouble for. It turned out to be nothing in particular for, however, though he couldn't say he was pleased to take up the assignment.

"New candidate, they need a tour." He said regardless with a shrug of his shoulders. "Don't worry, I've got this, and don't worry, we can probably take care of some chores after the tour." The Assistant seemed happy with this course of action and left him to it, saying she was probably in the common room, and so he headed in that direction.

He hadn't been looking forward to this...

...until he saw who it was.

And then his face broke out into the biggest shit eating grin possible, but he recalled that he had to behave, much as he didn't want to, and he whimpered as he flopped against the chair next to her and turned just enough so she could see the pout on his face. "Of all the assignments I receive, I have to receive the one that I'd like nothing more than to drag off and enjoy. But I'm on candidate duty and have to be a good boy." He glared at her, playfully so. "How dare you arrive now of all times. How dare."

Since arriving at the Weyr, and putting herself up for a daywher candidate, something that once she saw and got a chance to interact(albeit briefly) with one of the beasties, Nixal was more than thrilled with, the young woman had been waiting to catch Sal and surprise him. She had briefly asked around after him once she was in the cabins, and was informed that she could request a guide for her tour. Well, that decision basically made itself. So she found herself waiting in the common room. She had basically been shown her bed, and set her things down, then was ushered into the common room to wait.

At the sound of footsteps, she turned in her seat with a mischievous, triumphant smirk playing across her features. When she saw the shit-eating grin on Alasander's features, she couldn't help but cackle a bit under her breath at the reaction. It was exactly as she was hoping from him, and it warmed her heart to see him again. In that moment, all the heartbreak she had suffered vanished, and she was just happy to be in her friend's presence.

She reached over and petted his hair a bit, grinning at him, ”Oh, it's just terrible of me...I should probably be punished.” There were inflections to her tone, a darkness in the depths of her gaze that implied there was more to a 'punishment' than perhaps extra chores. But it didn't last as she chuckled and stood, stretching a bit, ”Sal, oh, Sal...How I've missed you...A hug wouldn't be beyond the rules here, would it? If it is, I'll just have to pine for the loss, but I might be willing to risk it...for you.” She chuckled throatily again, grinning cheekily at him.

Of course he wouldn't be able to deny her an embrace. He had to know if she still smelled the same - was she still the right touch of softness in his arms. did her hair still tickle his nose when he tried to sniff it, could he still make her laugh with a silly comment while he held on? He got up and lifted his fingers, telling her with motion to stand. "Hugs are always a given. Sal embraces are some of the best things in the world, and reserved only for the best."

He stepped towards her once she was on her feet and wrapped her arms around her, grinning once she was where he wanted her - right in his arms, and Faranth, was she as soft as he remembered. He sighed and set his cheek against her shoulder, recalling days past when they would rest together like this, sometimes in bed, sometimes against a wall... He smirked and pressed a kiss to her shoulder before straightening out to look down at her. "Want me to fly North and kick his ass for you?"

They both knew she could take care of herself, but it was also a given that he was overly protective of her as well. "Because I will. I'll make Elder fly me up there. Not sure how we'll manage given how small he is, but I'm sure we'll figure out a way to do it." He winked.

She was more than eager to rise and let his arms wrap around her. Her own laced around his middle, squeezing and holding him against her. His smell filled her nostrils as she buried her face against his shoulder, shamefully enjoying the moment. She had missed him, and it wasn't all physical(though considering the tingle in the more southern regions, she missed him that way too). But that was against the rules now, right? Why did that make it all the more tempting?

”I suppose I should consider myself lucky to be deigned worthy of the best, then.” She chuckled. And as he straightened, she reluctantly let him go, taking a small step back to face him. With the offer of kicking his ass, she knew he was referring to her ex-lover. And she shook her head with a shrug, ”As much as I am sure Elder would enjoy aiding such an endeavor, I honestly feel now that it was for the best. Besides...” She took a step past him, headed towards the door. As she passed him though, her hand snaked out, and a set of fingers playfully pinched the flesh of his rump, ”It made me take the plunge, and come down here to see one of my favorite people.”

Glancing back at him with a cheeky grin, ”So, how about you show me around this place? I didn't think I would be as excited as I am about the Daywhers.”

He gave a slight jump when she pinched him but, he wasn't going to lie, he had enjoyed it. He had missed this with her. Faranth, he was glad she had taken that plunge to come South. Good riddance to the scum she'd been with. The bastard didn't deserve her. 'Not like I do.' Wait... where had that thought come from? He looked around as though someone else had spoken and it hadn't come from his own mind, but it was just the two of them and a couple of others, no one that could have sounded like him at least. He would have frowned, but then she would suspect something was the matter - even if she couldn't have seen him at that moment - and so he hurried after her before she really did become suspicious.

He would have hugged her from behind in surprise, but she was glancing back at him before he could, and he pulled his arms behind him, knowing now - now dammit of all times - he had to behave. There would be a time and a place when he could misbehave with her and he would find that time and place just... not now. "Why, of course my dearest Nixie." He grinned cheekily in return, tapping her sweetly on the nose. "I shall be more than happy to give favorite person," he emphasized the word on purpose but was teasing about it. "A tour. We shall begin where we are, which is the common room of the barracks where we daywher candidates sleep. Next, I will show you the classrooms, then we shall proceed to the Weyr Yard."

Oh, she had missed him. After all the turns they'd known each other, fooled around as lovers as well as friends, and held each other through thick and thin, he was probably her greatest friend. Seeing him again after her recent lover drama was like a breath of fresh air. At that moment, she could not think of a single thing bad about her coming South, changing her life for something fresh and new. And not just to hang around with a familiar partner in crime either, but to experience the Daywhers, and Atricis, and all that the South had to offer.

As Alasander followed after her, she grinned almost triumphantly, her eyes almost shamelessly watching the slight swagger in his hips when he walked. She felt familiar tingles run down her spine as she watched him. When he stopped near her and tapped her nose, she resisted the urge to try and catch that finger between her teeth, and instead behaved herself, standing patiently, attentive to his words. It might all be fun and games with her, but she could also crack down and do her job. And right then, her job was learning the ins and outs of the Daywher candidate barracks.

When he finished detailing his master plan, she nodded, and looped her arm dramatically through his, almost a gentle mock of a Lord and Lady parading around, ”Lead the way, Senior Candidate. I cannot wait to see what you have to show me.” Her tone was polite, but there were the subtlest of salacious undercurrents, just enough that he might pick up on, but not so much that anyone could say for sure they were being inappropriate.

As he took hold of her arm, Sal made sure he gave it a good pat. He heard the tone in her voice and it brought back such maddening memories. Things that he didn't dare mention now. Things that he didn't dare think about. He narrowed his eyes in her direction and almost considered saying someting to admonish her because how dare she tease him with salacious promises that they couldn't fulfil right this moment? But he straightened his shoulders and turned forward, started them in a walk that was extremely proper and no one could say that it wasn't, and when he was certain they were clear of prying, curious ears, he spoke to her in a tone that was just as proper as their walk. "Dear lady," there it was, he was gearing up for something. "Keep your eyes open if you would. You'll want to be prepared for what comes after the tour."

He would leave it at that. She could take it as she would, but if she knew him - and he hoped she would - she would understand fully. "Now, here we have the common room. This is where the candidates gather most often, and regularly you can find daywhers in here. Sometimes they come to socialize with candidates. Every so often they'll filch once for themselves. So I've seen at least, and I've been here long enough to hear them talk about their plans, so I know when they're coming, the lazy shits." He leaned over. "I didn't tell you this in my letters, but I can hear them."

He hadn't told any of his family how he could hear them, quite clearly too, though he was only just beginning to be able to control the ability to some extent. "A couple of them are talking about the new candidate right now, the ones you saw outside of the barracks? They're being rather loud truth be told. I wish they'd shut the fuck up." He wrinkled his nose and shook his head, trying to force himself to focus again on the tour at hand, instead of getting off topic like he was. "Anyway, as I was saying, we're in the common room. Down that hall there, we have the classrooms." He led her down there, and showed her each room. "Lectures take place here, among other things, but you'll experience those soon enough."

He led her away, blocked the voices as they continued as best he could because really, they were being mindless now, and directed her attention down towards where the barracks actually where. "The barracks, which I'm sure you've been already. Girls down one section, boys down another. And that would be the barracks. Any questions?"

Her lips curled the instant she heard ”Dear lady” from him. Oh, how she had missed him, his voice, the things they said(and did) to each other. Even when there was nothing physical between them, he was a good friend, one that she valued above many others. She didn't think anyone else could have convinced her to come South, after all. But Sal was special in that regard. He was almost irritatingly good at getting what he wanted, when he wanted it. Then again, they both were.

She neatly let her arm mold against his in nothing but a friendly, polite manner. Even if the feel of his warm skin beneath her fingers was thrilling, the little game they played while he escorted her around was even better. And then the promise of more later on...Oh, Sal, you delicious wherry, thank you for not changing.

The Common Room looked like somewhere she could see herself spending some free time, even if just for the chance to interact a bit more casually with the Daywhers than what she had had so far. And her friend's voice continued so nonchalantly with his narration that she nearly missed something both fascinating and infuriating about his direction. He could hear them? What, like some rare people could hear dragons, supposedly? Her eyes swiveled and latched onto him, no longer really focusing on the tour.

He could hear them, and some were talking about her(she would realize later that that fact made her a bit happy, cementing the hope for Impression for her). And he was just continuing on with the tour as if he had not just dropped a load of dragon shit upon her head. The bloody tunnelsnake.

”Any questions?”

Her hand moved nearly of its own volition, and firmly shoved his shoulder, even while still holding his arm, ”Fucking what yes?!” Her voice dropped a bit before she got too loud to disturb anyone nearby, ”You can bloody well hear them? The Daywhers?”

Even though he could have worn the shit eating grin that threatened to appear on his face, he wore the most innocent of expressions instead when he turned to look at her. It wouldn't work, not with her, and it wouldn't last, again not with her, but it was fun to try while he was able to if only because he liked to see what her reaction would be to his attempts to act "as pure as white snow" (crock of shit that was and they both knew it).

"Hm, come again? Oh, you heard me say that. Well maybe, yes." He feigned uncertainty over his own words as he pulled her along, but it wasn't going to last, just like the rest of it was already crumbling starting at the ears which were turning red with suppressed laughter. "It started a little after I arrived, buzzing in my ears, a little fuzziness here and there, became clearer the more time I spent around them, and now I'm just learning how to block them out. By myself mind you. I haven't exactly told anyone but you about it."

He placed a finger over his lips, as if telling her the greatest of secrets in the world. "I don't know how to tell anyone either. Or if I even should for that." He shrugged at that. "I will eventually though. Someday soon I suppose. But you know at least." She was someone he'd never been able to lie to, through thick and thin, through everything they'd ever dealt with during the entirety of their friendship and beyond. He could never lie to Nixal.

He pulled her along, but she saw the shit eating grin, and the edges of his ears starting to turn crimson. She wanted to bite him. Like literally, bite him, like his cheek, or his arm, or his shoulder, or...Not now, Nix! Focus! So he could hear them...She had heard of such things with dragons. Rare people that could hear the dragons like hearing a normal person speaking. And she did not envy those people. The fact that Sal was learning to block them out implied that indeed, it could be a bit of a pain to be hearing all these voices in your head.

Shaking her own a bit, her hair hitting her cheeks with the movement, ”That's...quite something, Sal. Do the Daywhers know? Would they even care? I know there are people that can hear dragons like that, so I suppose it makes sense that there would be people that can hear the other ones...I wonder how many other people might be hiding such a talent...” She leaned her head on his shoulder for a moment, ”You know, I wonder if blissroot would help...or make it worse...” Her tone had gone a bit dreamy as it often did when she discussed the slightly controversial herb. ”But those experiments will have to wait, yes? Candidate's aren't supposed to do anything fun.”
