A Small Gift -- {64th Dragon Hatching, NPC}

A large natural cavern found by the initial expedition. It has been cleared out and filled with sand. Naturally flowing hotspring pools inside the cavern keeps this cavern warm enough for dragon eggs, but also makes it very humid with all the steam from the hotspring waters.

Fir 13
Mid-morning
Clear skies, mild heat

Lennoth had sat proud with her chosen mate up until the moment all 15 eggs had been lain and she had realized that not only had Mnenomth given her her smallest clutch yet, but that there was not even a golden shell to make up for it.

So much for a bronze... she grumbled to Rhianwen, but she could not fault Mnenomth's attentions on her while she watched over her offspring as they grew and their shells hardened on the sands.

"It's not like it's a small clutch, just smaller than your first two," Rhianwen pointed out, but even she felt a slight disappointment that they had not brought a larger clutch to the weyr.

This being now Lennoth's third clutch, Rhianwen found herself able to spend more time away from the sands, though the majority of her days were still spent on work she could do in the sweltering stands. The touching went leagues better than her first when Lennoth had postured and threatened the entire time the Candidates had been around. Now she watched silently and grumbled the entire time to Rhianwen but kept her words between them alone.

The day finally came, mid-morning before the worst of the heat set in, when Lennoth called the Weyr to her attention. The stands filled with observers, the sands with white-robed candidates. The eggs shook and, one after another, the fifteen eggs hatched and found their match.

Rhianwen watched and smiled. With each passing turn, she was gaining more control over her ability to hear dragons and while there was still a headache, it was nowhere near as bad as it had once been. Small blessings, Rhianwen thought to herself as Lennoth left the sands to feed and bathe once the grounds had emptied, could sometimes be the sweetest.
