Escaping The Green's Talons Pt 2 [Plot - OPEN]

The main, central area of the Weyr, since it's no longer a "bowl" like before, people have taken to calling it the courtyard, or more often, the Weyr Yard. Dragons land and take off here while people walk from building to building going along their daily duties.

Part two of Escaping The Green's Talons, A few days after Turns Beginning

In the time since Nimuriel and his small group had fled and arrived at the Weyr for asylum, explaining their situation, the Weyr’s Leaders, Weyrwoman Safryn and Weyrleader L’van, had worked to prepare for the refugees they believed would be coming from Walled, if Nimuriel and the late Vi’van had been right about coming internal war within Walled. War was a strange concept to Atricis, something the Northern Weyrs had rarely if ever had to deal with, but they were prepared to take in those that needed safety.

They weren’t entirely sure when they would come though, and so they waited, for Nimuriel, impatiently and nervously. He could only imagine what was going on within Walled after the attack, or what it was that had caused Vi’van’s death as well. His thumbnails were bitten down terribly by the time a message had come to him through Viridith.

He took Tovalia out with him to find the camp the message had told him about, informing the Leaders before as well and gaining their permission to find the refugees to bring them to Atricis. With their blessing, the pair of greenriders were off. It took a few days, but they found the camp, and after a few more days, they were able to give news to the Leaders.

”They will be coming shortly after Turn’s Beginning.”

And so the Weyr prepared, final decisions made, and assurances from at least Evanoria Weyrhold that some of the refugees would also be safe at the Weyrhold as well. Atricis would figure out who would go to the Weyrhold later though, for now, they would take in the group coming.

So it was, that when the first dragon appeared over New Atricis Weyr and announced his presence as Bronze Dazzeth, leading in the Walled Refugees, the Weyr knew it was time. New Atricis was being called on again to help those in need. It would be hard, a stress on the Weyr, but they couldn’t turn away those fleeing for their lives. New Atricis would give them safe haven.

The moment word reached N'kili about the incoming refugees from Walled, she set her wingmen to work. Due to the condition of most of her riders and their dragons, setting up camp was the perfect task for them, especially for the dragons rendered flightless due to various conditions. With the maps drawn up, she oversaw the set up of the campsite. Most of the tents were propped as accommodations; one, however was established as a place of silence and reflection. Contained within this contemplative tent was a golden idol of their beloved golden dragon, Jyniath, who was surrounded by candles and incense. As a woman of Walled, she understood how important their faith might be during such dark times. Many of these people fled with little to no belongings. Their belief, however, might bring them a peace of mind, thus she provided her fellow Wallese with what they likely lost in the move, a place to sooth their weary hearts.

When the refugees began to arrive, like the Igenese, N'kili greeted them with the rest of her wing. Wingmen of Ivory Feather worked with the leaders and harpers, recording the names of those who came to Atricis, and settling them into their tents where they were allowed to recover.

As for her own family, N'kili kept an eye out for any more who might show themselves in Atricis. News of her brother had already reached N'kili and her niece. The bluerider's daughter was devastated by the news, but N'kili did what she could to support the girl, promising to take care of her.

Lips quivered and a tear shed at the thought of the man, but she quickly wiped away all sign of mourning. Now was not the time, and there were people who needed tending to.

There was a part of the Wraithrider that didn't particularly want to help Ivory Feather with the refugees. Considering his own part that had been played in Walled that eventually led to this, well, Locke felt like maybe he'd done enough. Plus, it wasn't exactly like he participated much in his wing. That in itself was odd enough. The fact remained though, so of these refugees were the sort of people he wanted to help, mainly that of the children. In the end, he chipped in to do his part by helping with the camp set up. It didn't take too long to get plenty of bunks and tents set up for them all.

Before they began to arrive, Locke walked into the tent they'd set up for the goddesses. The ground was scattered with pillows for people to sit or kneel on in a more comfortable manner. He moved up to the shrine and put some of his personal incense in a pile for others to use and light in case they didn't have their own. He then took a stick for himself, lit it, and then placed it at the goddess's feet. After that, he stepped back and knelt down on one of the pillows. His hands rested flat on the top of his thighs as he bent his head for silent prayer. He prayed for the souls of those he'd lost...for those still left behind...and for himself to be strong enough to see the wrongs done to innocent people be righted.

When he finished he got up and headed out to see what was needed for him to do as they waited for the refugees. He noticed N'kili and moved over to her. "What's next on the docket, N'kili? What do you want me to focus on when they get here?" He asked curiously.

It had become unsafe for even Cehrazad's surreptitious visits to Walled Hold quite some time ago. Perhaps it had never been safe, but her close calls had become too frequent and Cehrazad had been forced to stop checking in on her little sister, let alone helping Sha'ryar with occasional investigations. Her sister was probably better off without Cehrazad taking the chance of someone associating her with a New Atricis rider anyway. . .

Until she wasn't.

Cehrazad had no idea what was happening in Walled Hold. She didn't know if her sister and her adoptive parents had survived the violence, she didn't know if Sha'ryar had died in the fighting, or even what side he had been on. She just didn't know anything, and she felt on a knife-edge waiting for tiny pieces of information to come out of Walled Hold.

When the refugees began arriving, she was torn between avoiding them completely, and trying to meet all of them and learn if they knew anything about the two Walled Hold residents that actually mattered to her.

But she needed to know, so Cehrazad volunteered to help with the children, hoping to see a familiar little girl, and hoping not to, hoping that she was still living in a quiet bakery with her parents. She would eventually have to speak to one of the dragonriders and learn Sha'ryar's fate, but for now, she was just bringing unaccompanied children to a tent set aside by a crecheworker. Few of them were extremely young, and those were usually carried by an older sibling. Cehrazad saw one tiny baby, surely barely old enough to eat solid food, clutched in the arms of a girl - really a young woman - and actually looked at her. She had not seen Donyazad in almost a turn now, and her little sister had 15 turns now, and was carrying a baby -
was it hers?

Donyazad suddenly recognized her, too, at least as the mysterious greenrider who had occasionally visited her parents until the past turn or so, and broke off from the other children to approach her.

"Our parents died in the chaos," she told the woman, sharply, while she bounced the baby on her hip. "Mama had just finally managed to have one child, and she died without seeing him grow up." She was glaring at Cehrazad, challenging, as if she wanted to know why the greenrider had let it happen.

Cehrazad was speechless. She hadn't really wanted to see the girl here, hoping her family was spared. But at least seeing her here, she knew Donyazad was alive, if apparently angry at Cehrazad for some reason that remained unclear.

Teaphena with her | Open
Teagen really didn't know what to expect, but she was sure a lot of them didn't. Their camp had gotten relatively large all things considering, and so it had taken a few days to get ready for the move from the hidden camp to New Atricis without being caught by Walled Dragons. It had to be timed just right so no sweeps were going through, but once it was clear to go, the dragons in the camp took off with their first loads, taking the people first to ensure they would be safe, items would be brought later.

Teaphena and Teagen, being some of the younger refugees, were some among the first group to board the dragons, and Teagen and Teaphena held tightly to one another as the dragon that brought them to the Weyr took off. Between was an intense experience, making Teagen feel like the air was taken from her lungs. It was short, done in an instant, but on the way out she found herself gasping for breath, worrying Teaphena. Shards, she was supposed to be taking care of Teaphena, not the other way around, but here she was, hyperventilating from the shock of going between on top of all the emotional stress and turmoil they had faced in the past few sevendays.

The rider and dragon landed, and quickly Teagen and Teaphena were helped down, with Teagen helped into a sitting position in the Yard as Teaphena, not knowing what to do, rubbed Teagen's back and talked to her to try to soothe her so she could breathe normally again.

V'say's Thread Tracker
Tag Teagen /Teaphena
Like many in New Atricis V'say heard all about the troubles at Walled Hold, not that he much cared one way or the other. He may be technically from Walled Hold himself but he never felt any loyality to it. He travelled all over the South with his troupe of performers and entertainers till he was Searched and came to New Atricis to Stand. If he felt anything about the inhabitants it was mostly hoping they found good sources of entertainment to chase away their worries at least for awhile.

News of refugees from Walled brought out much the same response as the Igenite refugees did, he planned a way to cheer up the misplaced. Not wanting to use the same trick as before V'say worked his way around the various tents set up to provide temporary shelter, he even peeked into the tent containing a shrine to Jyniath, the golden dragon of the Ancients who left the South to seek salvation for the beleaguered riders. V'say thought the statue was very pretty but he knew better than picking a place of worship for his 'stage'. Slipping away he found a ore open area not far from where dragons were already landing to unload the first set of refugees.

When a pair of children he doubted were much into their teens if even that old sat in the yard comforting each other in this strange new place, V'say knew he had found the perfect audience. He was wearing loose light cloth over a flexible bodysuit which didn't hinder him when he contorted. The light cloth was designed so he could pull it off if he so chose during his act but the main purpose was to add a show of colour as he moved. Colour was definitely very prominent in his outfit, mostly bright primary colours with a few faded shades here and there. As these weren't all that new he had to make adjustments since he grew a bit since Impressing Sioriarth.

As soon as he was in the right spot to start, V'say started to do several cartwheels, letting the flowing cloth around him swirl about in a flash of bright colour. He came to a stop not too far from the two girls and stretched out flat on his stomach. He stretched his arms ahead of him, flat on the ground then bent his legs up and over his head so the back of his feet joined his hands stretched before him. He looked up at the girls and smiled before twisting around and lying more on his side, his legs bent about him in ways that looked humanly impossible.

Teaphena is with her

At first they hadn't noticed the young man in the bright clothes, at least not when he first walked to his selected space. They were distracted with themselves, Teagen finding her regular breathing again and Teaphena tearfully rubbing her back. They soon leaned into one another, finding comfort in the only family they had left now. Everyone else was gone, they hadn't seen any of them in the camp, so they hadn't been among those that had escaped. It was only Teagen and Teaphena left to face the uncertainty in their lives.

Then the flash of colors got their attention, with Teagen pointing out the young man that cartwheeled his way over. Still they were both a little surprised by how close he came and stopped. They watched with curiosity, for a moment wondering what he was doing over their own despair. Then he bent himself into a shape that seemed so strange, Teagen gasped a little when his feet bent over to where his hands lay. Then he smiled, and further contorted his body and they watched in amazement.

"I didn't know anyone's body could do that," Teagen couldn't help but announce in surprise, almost forgetting her breakdown just moments ago save for the exhaustion that started to overtake her body. Eventually, the cousins clapped for him, figuring he was performing for them now. It might have been strange, but at the same time, the impromptu performance had been just distracting enough to help them. For just that moment they didn't have to think about all they had lost.

[Tag Teagen]

V'say could see his contorting did catch the two girl's attention, drawing them away from being torn from their home to a new place by circumstances beyond their control. He knew he couldn't make everything better but seeing he was distracting them from their misery even for a little while made him feel like a real hero.

Their applause only made things better, he loved every moment of it and because they were clapping it was clear the girls were enjoying it and forgetting their pain. It was the perfect exchange in V'say's book.

"Not every body moves like this," V'say responded and flowed into another limb twisting formation. Once he was all twisted up breathing was a bit of a challenge but he had long since learned how to control his breathing so he could manage till he moved into a different pose.

Once he was sitting upright, legs up and over his shoulders backwards and one arm twisted behind his neck, he was able to breath and talk easier. "My name's V'say and I cordially welcome you to New Atricis. To whom do I have the honor of performing for?"
